One day my telescope 12” LX200 failed to communicate from RS232 to PC.
I don’t know what is happened.
The telescope is on a permanent roll- off observatory on my cottage.
On my visit I found that some devices were out of operation.
and betwen, the Rs232 communication from telescope was completely out of operation.
The very strange was that the main power switch on the observatory was closed.
Maybe i was victim of a nearby lightning strike.
I suspected the MAX 232 chip on the main board was fail.
I first tried the second RS232 with no success.
So I got the risk to replace the MAX 232 chip.
It is a common available chip and it is easy to find it.
The chip is not on a socket so needs extra care and of course the correct tools.
I installed socket on the board and then easy installed the chip on it.
All went very well and now I have back a brand new RS232 port working excellent…
